Behind the Scenes at The Mansion on Madison
NYC’s Most Prestigious Decorator Show House Opens May 1
Best & Company is honored to be working behind the scenes at the 42nd Annual Kips Bay Decorator Show House, the biggest fundraising event of the year for one of New York’s most respected youth organizations, the Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club.
Renovated by its present owners in 2011, the six-story brownstone at 457 Madison will have its classically inspired 26,190-square-foot interior overhauled from cellar up by 13 internationally respected designers over the next few weeks—and Best & Company is proud to be part of the hustle and bustle.
Our general contracting teams are collaborating with talented designers John Douglas Eason and Martyn Lawrence Bullard on the exciting transformation of the building’s two most prominent passageways—the Main Staircase and the main level’s Grand Hall, respectively (shown in the historic Library of Congress image, above).

Constructing a scaffold high enough to reach the grand staircase’s double-height 32-foot-high ceiling.
And protecting the historic marble and polished-stone surfaces with two layers of ramboard and Masonite during the construction phase, just in time for a refrigerator to be hauled up the steps…hmmm.

All that before the actual “prep” work can begin, and the trend-setting transformation begin to unfold.
We’ll keep you posted on our progress, and hope you will join us at the grand unveiling party on April 30th.
