November 2012
We hope that you will enjoy this inaugural edition of Best & Company’s newsletter. It’s our newest way of staying in touch with colleagues, clients, and friends who share our belief that the best homes become the settings of lives well lived.
The connection between home, warmth, and comfort is especially clear this November, as we prepare for the upcoming holidays and colder months on the heels of storms that have disrupted the lives of so many of our neighbors and friends. We are keeping our eye on the future—and know the best of times are yet to come. At Best & Company, we are committed to helping you feel good about where you live.
It’s our business—and our pleasure.
BEST Dollars & Sense
Making a home more comfortable doesn’t require adding on square footage. Best & Company's design team can help you re-think the space you’ve got, and make it multitask.
CASE IN POINT:
This custom 9-drawer chest—inspired by a T.H. Robsjohn-Gibbings original—was a highlight of this year’s Kips Bay Decorator’s Show House, where it served as a focal point in a room designed to transition from home office/media room to guest room. The client wanted to re-create the $22,000 original in a larger size and brighter color—for a smaller price.
SOLUTION:
Our in-house artisans hit the drafting boards and came up with this custom size, red lacquer, heirloom-quality chest, completed for what has been called a "miracle price".
Please don't hesitate to contact us if we can help you with a custom piece you might be considering.
It’s a practical luxury that offers the client twice the mileage—at about half the retail price.
BEST in Show
Best & Company proudly joined the women of The New York Junior League last month for their Fall House Tour, a select showing of beautiful NYC living.
We sponsored a VIP house tour of one of our favorite recent projects, including this renovated apartment in the historic El Dorado, at 300 Central Park West. For this home, Best & Company teamed up with interior designer Alexander Doherty to create a light, bright, comfortable 2,500-square-foot apartment that lived up to the owner’s expectations—and strict landmarkbuilding codes.
PUNCH LIST:
• New windows, in conjunction with city landmark regulation
• Insulation/noise reduction
• Air conditioning
• Custom mouldings
• A welcoming foyer, library, breakfast nook, and custom-fitted kitchen, fabricated in our own
Long Island City cabinetry and millworking shops.
FINISHING TOUCHES:
• Bleached walnut chevron-patterned floor
• Painted walls a pale gray
• Installed an antique white-marble mantelpiece imported from Europe
• Carved out space for a luxurious master bathroom, private vanity area, and a washer
and dryer.
Everywhere in New York, time and space are the biggest luxuries of all—and our team will work with you to make the most of both.
